Even if you had as much money and fame as Beyonce, you’d still have to deal with racism
The CMAs give Bey the pettiest snub ever
I really don’t care what the country world thinks but their total rejection of Beyonce is something I can feel. Zero Country Music Award nominations for Cowboy Carter, a country album that hit #1 on the Country charts and changed the way many people see Country? Wow. The Country music world has refused to even acknowledge Bey. They’re saying you’re not like us.
Cowboy Carter was born from Beyonce being rejected at the CMAs by Country music people and, oh, look they rejected her again. This petty snub from a group of people who were probably busy on January 6th reminds me of the way Black Americans are often excluded from certain parts of this country. The way that sometimes we are not fully included in what it means to be American. We built this country and we are quintessentially American just as Beyonce is a Southern artist with country in her spirit. But, we, like Bey, are too often, excluded.
This is racism. And it reminds us that even if we acquire a lot of money and fame, we’ll still have to deal with racism. Because white fragility knows no bounds. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt Beyonce one bit—was success at the CMAs one of the goals? I doubt it. But, we can see their hoods showing.
The CMAs chose to lose money and attention rather than acknowledge Beyonce. For some white folks, no amount of Almighty Dollars would make this worth their while. There are things some capitalists won't do for money.
This should be a whole dissertation. I’m sure there have been several already written about this.
