Trumpy Is Petty And Vindictive With A Long Enemies List

One thing that stands out to me, as Trump re-ascends his evil throne, is that he’s hyper focused on… his enemies. On Inauguration Day—which should have been the happiest day of his whole pathetic life—he was out there talking about people he hates. Just minutes after becoming President, he told a crowd that Dr. Fauci and General Milley are “very guilty.” He also called out Liz Cheney and he said Nancy Pelosi is “guilty as hell.” Later that day he took away John Bolton’s Secret Service detail. Trumpy is petty and vindictive with a long enemies list. Biden was smart to pre-emptively pardon Fauci, Milley, and his family—he knows what Trump will try to do. It’s wildly shameful that in America the President feels it necessary to pre-emptively pardon his own family to protect them from the next President. That’s stuff you read about in, like, fascist countries.

Trump’s enemies are part of what got him elected. But enemies during campaigning is one thing. It makes sense—he gave his followers specific targets to hate on and that revved them up. Where other politicians gave you vague targets, Trumpy named names. It was exciting. It made him seem like a tough guy and a straight talker. It directed the MAGAs energy toward Trump’s enemy-du-jour and it gave them a sense of purpose. But now that he’s in office, he doesn’t need enemies to keep the people loving him. (It’s all about people loving him.) This is what makes it scarier to me—it’s not a campaign tactic. It’s a lifestyle. It’s scary having the most powerful man in the country have an enemies list that he intends to get through.

It would be even more tragic if Trump’s enemies list was ideological, as in, he’s targeting people of a specific way of thinking, like Communists or climate defenders, but no, this is Trumpy. The people on his enemies list are people he doesn’t like personally. They’re people who dared say he was incorrect. (Trumpy doesn’t stand for or think about something bigger than himself—everything redounds back to him personally.) So, it’s tragic but also ridiculous but also dangerous. The people on his enemies list are in danger from both a vindictive President and his devoted crazies.

And any minute now Trumpy will start attacking his public enemy #1—immigrants. The people he’s been railing about since he came down that escalator. He’s about to unleash his ICE attack dogs for immigration raids, another way of inflicting pain on people he hates. Attacking those people got him elected. It's amazing that somehow, in a capitalist society where the wealthy are vaulting to new financial heights while destroying the middle class, a wealthy man has convinced millions of middle-class people that their great enemy is not the upper class who control government and business, no, it’s people who crossed the Mexican border in order to work.
