After the 2022 midterms there was a lot of talk in elite Democratic circles that President Biden should step down and make way for a primary. That same conversation was also happening at the grassroots level. Dems high and low wanted to move on from Biden and launch a competition to see who their next nominee would be. Yes, elite Dems were saying there should be a primary as far back as 2022. “They really wanted an open primary,” said a Democratic party insider . “Nancy Pelosi, that whole world, they wanted an open primary.” Why? “Because they didn't want Kamala Harris at all.” Oh. “Nancy Pelosi secretly, not even so secretly, wanted the ticket to be either Josh Shapiro with Gretch[en Whitmer], or Gretch with Gavin Newsom, or some combination of one of those, of two of those three: Gretch, Newsom, and Shapiro.”
