Grace is an icon. I remember society just telling me over and over how she was weird, aggressive, too masculine, too dark, too tall etc etc etc but somehow at a young age I knew something was wrong with those comments. Instead of listening to the haters I saw her as bold and empowering. She embodies Grace.
The title of this, though, "Hip Hop's Fathers" and then diving into a feminist icon is a little cringy. 🥴
I was in a dance contest, and Grace Jones judged the finals in the late 70’s. I'll never forget what a celebrity she was, especially when my late husband was part of Studio 54 and Grace Jones was part of the entourage. She is an icon in my book!
