Prince is one of the most sexual artists of all time. He presented himself as a sex god who was more experienced than anyone and able to seduce anyone. Everyone knew that one night with Prince would turn you out. Many people who grew up listening to his music feel like he kindof taught them how to be a sexual being in the world or even how to have sex. Sex was such a deep part of Prince’s persona onstage and off, that many people are curious about what his sex life was like. After my last piece about Prince and his first wife Mayte, one of his old girlfriends called me. She read my story and was in the mood to talk.
I’ve known her for a long time. I know she’s telling the truth. On their first date, Prince invited her to play basketball with him but she was wearing high heels so the whole interaction was disappointing and he sent her home early. She thought she’d ruined her chance with him but he called her the next day. They went on to have an on again, off again thing for years. He once rented out a whole movie theater so they could watch a movie alone. He flew her out to his tour dates. She played pool with him at his house.
One thing that really moved her was that he had both male and female energy. “Being with him was more like being with a woman than any man I have ever been with,” she said. What does that mean? It meant he talked to her, took care of her, and was nurturing toward her in a way that reminded her more of being close with women than with other men. “He would brush my hair,” she said. “He would bathe me. He would scrub me. He was gentle. He was communicative. He wanted to talk to me about life shit, like, we had deep conversations. He was intellectual. He was romantic.”
She said Prince, as a man in a relationship with a woman, understood that the best fuck is the mindfuck. “He was very mental,” she said. “He was very much into the lead up and the game of anticipation and playing with your mind. That was interesting to him. He would play games like, he would make you wait, or he would dare you to do things.”
